Memory is both nostalgic and generative. It is at once flexible and set fast. Each of us remembers differently, and yet there are similarities, familiar echoes of shared context.

Don’t Forget This showcases the work of Mateo Abarca, Billie MacFarland, Abbas Rwego and Dylan Dae Shin as they explore the myriad of ways that memory both ties us to our past and grounds us in our present. The resulting works capture the transience of memory and explore the malleability of our capacity for recollection and story-telling.

Through divergent approaches based on each artist’s individual experience, the group arrives at a coherent body of work which explores the persistent impacts of bodies, spaces and materials on our understanding of past and present. We invite you to bring your curiosity, your baggage and yourself to the work in hopes of creating something new to reminisce about.

Memory is both liminal and everlasting. Each recollection echoes the last, constructing the stories which make up our lives. A dog barks, a palette knife scrapes paint over a scabbed surface, there is a grasshopper sleeping on my chest. Somewhere someone whispers, “Don’t forget this”.

I doubt I ever will.
